This is a pretty special and rare guitar.Back in 2003, Music Machine did a run of Stingers. (But if you're looking at this listing then you know all that stuff). The guitars were made in pairs. Such that only 2 of them have exactly the same specs. This one is an "R4" insofar as the serial number does indeed start with a 4. But that's where its "4-ness" ends.It has two factory uncovered humbucker pickups. It does have a wrap tailpiece like an R4. In that sense it's like a Jeff Beck, which if you look at the serial number on the cert, the JB bears out. The Grovers are factory as they would be on a 54 Oxblood. The top is quite flamey but more than just flamey, has some personality. I'm not going to say it's an R9 top because someone will come out of the woodwork to say "no it doesn't." The neck is an R9 neck. Again, the certificate bears this out. It's says "59." DTGB on the cert means dark tangerine burst. This is MM2. It means it's number 2 of music machine stingers. It's "mate" is MM1. Basically what this all means is that there are only 2 Brazilian Rosewood Stingers out there with a 59 top, a 59 neck, wrap tailpiece and 2 humbuckers. Pretty cool and pretty rare. This top was never drilled for a pickguard. Also the toggle switch and truss rod cover were custom for this series of guitars. They don't have writing or contrast binding. This is a great guitar and it's in near mint condition. I was so enchanted with its beauty but scared to damage it that I didn't play it very much. Top is perfect and pristine and the only thing stopping it from being mint is a tiny amount of buckle rash on the back. It's very subtle and hard to photograph. This guitar is excellent. It's rare. (One of only 2). It's tonally lovely (everything good about an r9 but with a wrap tailpiece). Overall this is a special instrument.Weight is 8lb, 7 ounces. It feels like a very light guitar when held but keep in mind Grover tuners do add a bit of weight to the headstock.
