This concert sitar was handmade by the late S.K. Bhattacharya of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, approximately 25 years ago. The hand-carved tabli in a rose motif is exquisite.  Strung in Kharaj Pancham or Ravi Shankar style, this instrument has a very sweet and round sound.  Sympathetic string response is balanced and lively.  The single-color pen work is hand-scribed.  This is not your typical, mass-produced eBay sitar.  It has been professionally set up within the last month, including new Pyramid wire and a refreshed jawari.  The frets have been polished and have no burring or meaningful wear.  The bridge is made of the same material used for Hiren Roy sitars and will last indefinitely.  There is some flaking of the finish and wear on the bottom of the gourd where the instrument rests on the foot while playing, which is typical.  This sitar comes with a nicely-padded gig bag that is in pristine condition and is perfect for storage and transport to lessons or performances.  Vintage Bhattacharya sitars are very hard to come by, but are almost impossible to find in this condition.      Shipping to lower 48 only.  Photos are part of the description.
