We are honored to be able to list several pieces from his extensive collection.Ref# 00594: When we were given the opportunity at Jim's gear, we were really excited about this piece. Not 100% sure what it was, we took her down to "Senior" (our oldest friend, Scott Lentz) to have a look at her. Scott did a damn near forensic inspection of her and helped us dial it in. The body, we believe, is that of a '54. She has '56 pots in her and we have reason to believe the guitar was a re-neck by Gibson, having been finished by Gibson in late '69. The serial number font differs from what we have seen when you send a Les Paul back to Gibson for a re-neck. It has a one piece Mahogany neck that does not sport the "Made In The USA" stamp. The tenon runs straight through the body with no gap at all. The neck is damn near as beefy as an early V or Explorer. The black finish was shot straight over the gold (yes, this was a bloody Gold Top!) and it blacklights perfectly - typical Gibson. The lacquer checking is to die for and dates the guitar back to about the late 60's/early 70's. With little regard to their look or collectability, Jim's goals were to turn his guitars into workhorses that he could tour and record with. This is a great players guitars, and a great players guitar only. As far as a mint collectors piece, you will not find it here. Without question, this thing plays and sounds like the workhorse battleaxe it was meant to be and now you can own a piece Pop and Chicago music scene history. Remember, this ride comes as is. The guitar weighs in as 9lbs 3oz and comes with the Black Gibson "Cowboy" Jim originally had for the guitar. In our over 30 years of business, Customer Service has always been of the utmost importance to us.
