Michael builds his guitars one at a time, by hand, in his custom shop in California. This is an early Carve Top maybe the first. It is a one of a kind early prototype of the Virtuoso model. It features a stunningly beautiful Carved redwood top with center 3 piece purfling with matching headstock. The body is Alder the neck is AAAA Flame Maple –also stunning. The pickups are Custom wound by Häussel Custom-Shop in Germany and lend this guitar masterful tone that ranges from woodsy Les Paul tones at the bridge to glassy blues in the middle and neck positions. For an early prototype she’s in very good condition but not mint. The bridge is Gotoh and it appears the original block was swapped out for a larger one with greater mass so there is some slight routing 1/16” in the cavity to accommodate the larger block but it is not noticeable unless you take the guitar apart. Cosmetically the guitar looks amazing as you can see in the pictures. There are a few impressions in the top coat but no breaks or repairs ever -one side dot is missing it will cost pennies to replace. The frets are 98% or better. Comes with Tweed Hard case. Mike is an old-school builder he builds guitars literally "from scratch." He carves and shapes the bodies from choice pieces of wood. Same with the necks - carved completely by hand. There are simply VERY FEW builders still building this way but it’s a labor of love! You Might expect the man known for his custom shop builds while at Ibanez for the likes of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Reb Beach, Andy Timmons etc to turn out more “metal shred” machines but this is a real workhorse guitar that is balanced and versatile –a true masterbuilt one of a kind instrument.The guitar is in excellent condition, frets and neck are exceptional, the top and back have real small imperfections in the clear coat and a small nick on the headstock.
