Description

Gretsch Viking in fantastic condition. The serial number of this guitar dates it to 1964 (per Gretsch's website), however, the pot codes show 1965. I would consider it a 1965 to be safe. These were second only to the White Falcon in the Gretsch line and the quality really shows on this one.  There are a few things about this guitar that make it unusual. First, it does not have a Bigsby brand tremolo. It has a Gretsch trem that was designed by Jimmie Webster. It has a really cool telescoping arm and the unit is very smooth. I have several other Bigsby equipped guitars and this trem unit is as nice as any of them, and probably cooler looking. This guitar also was never set up with the dreaded tuning fork bridge, and there are no holes for it in the guitar. From what I understand, there were only a few made with this set up. The binding on the guitar is in great shape. There are only a few cracks and I tried to get some good pics. The finish of the guitar is in amazing shape too. You would not believe that it is 52 years old. Even a lot of the gold hardware looks great. I dare say that you will never see another in this condition. The zero fret and the first fret have some wear and will need to be replaced at some point. I play it every day as it, but the high E string buzzes when played open. When you are fretting the string, it does not buzz. The only other "issue " is that the pad on the mute has been replace with a white one. Its a non issue and can be easily replaced if you want to. I never did. Let me know if you have any questions and feel free to make a reasonable offer. Thanks!
