Description

Two racked channels from the original Quad Eight Motown console in Hollywood. Recapped and upgraded last year by the current authority on all things Quad Eight: Ken Hirsch at Orphan Audio. This includes a brand new and top notch external power supply that he custom built for me. All work was done within the Los Angeles area and was not shipped. It's an inductor based EQ with mic and line inputs and has an amazing color. The sound is often referred to as a cross between Neve and API. The frequency and gain controls are stepped.Rich Costey is a big fan of these modules:"I had just gotten some Quad 8 310 EQs before I began the Foo Fighters project, and I found that cranking the shit out of the mid-range with the Quads helped the drums quite a lot. On most of the album the bass and snare drum went through the Quad 8s, with severe amounts of mid-range added. Quad 8 grew out of Electrodyne and was very popular in the 1970s, particularly with film companies. I obtained some channels that came out of the Motown Sunrise console and they're basically three bands of EQ and a mic pre and output level, and the Q gets tighter as you push it up. The Quad 8s are a little bit rounder and warmer-sounding than similar API modules."Pics show the condition, outside and inside of the unit, and serial number of one of the cards (the other would have to be removed to show). As seen in the pic, the rack has a ripple in the left side. It's purely cosmetic and was how I received it, all work to upgrade the unit was done afterwards. The operation and condition of the electronics is in top notch, mastering grade condition.
