Vintage WFL/Ludwig 1957 Blue/Gold Duco Club Date Drum Kit: 13/15/22/14Very special indeed! Uncatalogued finish! Club Dates, same shells as a Super Classic or Down Beat set, simply different hardware and are typically a 12" rack tom, 14" floor tom, 20" bass drum and a 14" Pioneer snare drum. This is one of the bigger 'De Luxe Club Date' sets Ludwig (WFL Drums at the time) made and were often sold as either just a bass and a snare, or a bass, snare and a rack tom or a full 'De Luxe' set. The date stamps on the snare and bass, being made on the same day, would lead you to think that that's how they were originally sold but as the rack tom, dated 1959, two years later, has aged in exactly the same way as the other two drums would suggest they were sold together. The floor tom is a separate addition that appears to have been a natural lacquer drum from the same period that has been sprayed but as you can see from the pictures, someone has done a bloody good job of it! Fairly fresh Remo heads across the kit but the bass drum head appears to be a very old '50s/60s Ludwig head that has been used as a batter head at one point but it still has it's integrity. The WFL logo on the bass head has been added later. This kit sounds, as you'd expect from gear of one of Ludwig's golden eras, brilliant. Those classic three ply shells boom out and product a hell of a rumble. WFL badges on the floor, kick and snare, 'Transitional' Ludwig badge on the rack tom. All Nickel hardware across the whole kit. Classic lugs, 'Clipper' floor tom leg boxes, straight legs, triple flanged hoops, spade tom mount and consolette rail, dog-leg spurs. Basically, this kit is really cool. Please see link to the 1957 WFL catalogue, page 2: http://www.drumarchive.com/Ludwig/1957_LUDWIG.pdfCondition:A reasonable amount of war wounds on the bass drum but nothing that affects the drum's structural integrity. Scrapes, bumps, dings, worn paint and a couple of extra holes that have been filled where it appears that someone has moved the rail mount but with the bottom end out of this thing, who cares! The odd bend in a tension rod, pedal rash obviously, there are a few splits in the hoops, they look bad but they don't go even half the way through, we tuned the kick right up high as a stress test and then took the hoops off again and they held their shape fine. The tom mount is stiff but damn sturdy and the wing nuts on the spurs are a challenge to turn but they work as they should do. The usual gig ware and tare is topped off by the odd bit of rust on the claws but again, all cosmetic. The rack again has some rash were the paint has worn on it's back-side, bit of gigwear but again, no actual issues. The snare drum is in great condition, not many dings or anything on this. The arm of the thro has been bent in toward the batter hoop slightly, bit of rust on the mechanism its self but nothing noteworthy. The floor tom as we have said has been resprayed so it looks really tidy, the hardware carries it's age well and as far as we can tell, when it was painted, the badge was not removed. Overall the condition of this kit is great, it has it's war wounds as you'd expect from gear sixty years old but all of the bearing edges are smooth and it tunes up brilliantly which is ultimately what matters with these drum sets... bags of that vintage tone! (All issues mentioned can be viewed in image nine.)As this is a pre-63 kit, it does not have any serial numbers, only date stamps.Included:13" x 9" Rack Tom - date stamp 'OCT 21 1959'15" x 12" Floor Tom - no visible date stamp22" x 14" Bass Drum - date stamp 'AUG 17 1957'14" x 5" Pioneer Snare Drum - date stamp 'AUG 17 1957'Please feel free to email us in regards to any details about this drum kit.Postage and packaging to Mainland U.K. £29.99Postage and packaging to select countries within Europe £179.99We are willing to ship world wide, please email us for a quote.
