Ryoji Matsuoka M60 2006? This is a powerful professional level Classical guitar from the famous Japanese Luthier Ryoji Matsuoka’s workshop made in 2006. The guitar has great volume, deep rich bases, and full clear trebles with very good playability. It’s sounds much like a Torres crossed with a Ramirez with some romance thrown in. If you are looking for a great guitar and can accept some cosmetic issues you will be very pleased. It can hold its own against much more expensive concert guitars in my large collection. I have (and sold) over 15 Ryoji’s from all the late 60’s to the 2000’s. This Ryoji has a cedar top with rosewood double plate back and sides. I set the action at 3.2 at the 12th fret with plenty of saddle left. The model numbers Ryoji used were typically tied to selling price of the guitar at the time and there was tremendous inflation during the 70’s. So a model 30 from the 70’s could be a model 80 in the 80’s. In addition they had the same models numbers with different woods both solid and double plate with all sorts of variations. It’s really too hard to follow so I wouldn’t try. Early ones have hand signed labels, later they had printed signature and then none at all. I can only tell you the comparisons I have made side by side and where this one falls in with the others. First I have never heard a Ryoji I didn’t like. (Nothing new in the Guitar Center has much of a chance). The sound quality regardless of the year and model is way above average. This one is the second best I have heard and is plain cosmetically but excels in sound. I priced it low because of the nicks and scratches and the original purchase price at the time sold but the sound places it at a much higher price. Ryoji Matsuoka is one of Japans leading Luthiers. He started a small Artisan workshop and made high end guitars for Aria, Aranjuez, Orozco , Ruben Flores and many others. He also produced guitars using his own label. He worked with Kohno producing the top end models for Aranjuez. All the Ryoji’s I have played have always been delightful from the low end to the high end models. Ryoji also made special models utilizing bracing and styles from other major Spanish luthiers. I am a luthier and according to the former owner it was in storage for many years. I can tell it was played a lot but not abused. I put on a new set of Labella 2001 median tension strings and a new bone saddle and set the action to 3.2 mm. Scale: 654 mmNut: 52mmAction 12th Fret: 3.2mm 6th stringSaddle Height above bridge: 4 MM (can be lowered)Top: cedarBack: Rosewood doubles plate
