Description
This auction is for a vintage, Fender Mustang Bass made in the USA in 1976. I am a luthier and I converted this bass to fretless by removing the existing frets and inlaying maple in the fret slots. This provides terrific location markers and is perfect for the player wanting to get into playing fretless. In addition, the maple looks particularly beautiful against the nicely figured rosewood fingerboard. It has a terrific sound and super low action. The shorter scale length of the Mustang makes it very easy to play. A guitarist will feel quite comfortable playing this bass.If you ever decide you want to have it fretted again it would be a simple process to recut the fret slots (they were not widened) and reinstall the frets, but I doubt you would want to do that as it is an awesome fretless bass.I also replaced the original black, plastic nut with one I made from ebony. (see photo)There are some minor scratches on the back of the bass which can be seen in one of the photos. This comes with a new (unused) black, Fender case.Good luck!
