AEQ EAGLE MULTI-FORMAT ISDN CODEC - Dual channelThis is a rack-mounting dual-channel codec designed to make connections via ISDN with an internal terminal adapter which can connect to either Euro or ANSI ISDN lines. Analogue audio and digital AES/EBU inputs and outputs are provided. It is most often used, situated at a studio facility, to receive contributions from remote contributors such as journalists, commentators or company spokesmen, with portable contributions devices such as AEQ’s own Swing device, but is equally suitable for originating links to other studio-based codecs. Both G711 and G722 coding modes are supported, as well as MPEG Layer II, MPEG Layer III and AEQ LD-2 coding. Mono, dual-mono, joint stereo and stereo coding modes are possible. A split coding-mode can be used, for example, where high quality transmission can be used together with a low coding-delay return audio signal for cue. The internal phone book will store up to 256 entries to speed dialing to set-up connections. The front panel has two, back-lit, LCD displays to indicate call status, the number dialed and the current coding algorithm in use, each with associated navigation keys. There is a numeric keypad for dialing; LED bar-graph VU-meters indicate transmit and receive audio levels. Separate groups of three keys, one for each channel, are used to control the line, place calls on hold and route the connection to the live environment. A stereo, A-gauge, 6.35mm jack socket, with an associated volume control, provides a headphone output to monitor the audio. A microphone input (XLR), with press-to-talk keys, allows the operator to communicate with the caller using a suitable stub or gooseneck microphone (not included). An RJ11 socket allows a standard analogue telephone to be used for an alternative method of dialing and remote control (using DTMF tones). On the rear, XLR connectors provide two sets of transformer-balanced, analogue inputs and outputs. Two 9-pin D-sub connectors connect AES/EBU digital audio signals. Two 9-pin D-sub connectors for auxiliary data channels 1 and 2, using the RS232 data protocol at speeds up to 9600 baud, are provided for transparent end-to-end signaling. An RJ11 socket is provided to connect ANSI ISDN lines (USA) and an RJ45 for Euro ISDN lines. A general purpose port is available, with a 15-pin D-sub connector, to give current status indication to external equipment, such as when there is an incoming call, a call is connected, the line synchronised. A preferred start-up mode can be set using DIP switches. The power input is via an IEC connector with integral fuse holder.Power source: 90-240V AC 50-60Hz, 40VA. Dimensions: 1U rack-mounting, depth 340mm. Weight: 4.6 kg.
