This beautiful R9 is one of those very rare, collectible guitars. Brazilian Rosewood -- the holy grail for guitar builders and the wood used on the original 1959 Les Paul -- is now a near-extinct species and has been internationally banned for commercial use. Gibson announced that they will never make another guitar with this rare wood, so there will never be a more accurate '59 reissue than the handful of 2003 R9s made with the same Brazilian Rosewood as the original. (An original 1959 Les Paul can sell for upwards of $400,000).This specific guitar was purchased new by a Music Industry Executive in California and professionally stored in its hard case in a humidity-controlled collection room for the first 12 years.
