For sale is a new set of Michael Dows small pipes in the key of A. I took procession of these pipes in January of this year and I just do not play them enough to do them justice. The set is made from American honey mesquite, a domestic hardwood of superior stability that Michael pioneered using for bagpipes in the early 1990's. The set has brass lined tuning slides, and Michael considers the mounts on these pipes to be the hardest and most beautiful material he has ever used - mineralized jaw bone. This material is bone (not tusk or tooth) and so is 100% compliant with all current CITES law. These pipes come with a detachable chanter stock. This allows the chanter to be removed from the bag for storage without exposing the reed. The bar across the top (known affectionately as (the "Walker Bar") prevents reed damage. The detachable stock, called a "split stock" by some makers, was developed by Michael to allow for the removal of the chanter from the bag without exposing the reed. The small bar soldered across its opening prevents reed damage. The large internal diameter allows for the reed to have plenty of shoulder room to facilitate reed removal, adjustment and re-inserting into the detachable stock with much less risk of breaking a corner. Usually the death knell for chanter reeds. This larger I.D. for the chanter reed's home was an innovation of Michael’s used by him from the very beginning of his pipemaking. It is a wonderful innovation. The kit comes with a case. Bellows are not included. They are a pleasure to play!    Purchased new in January for $2300.
