Here is a rare banjo find, 1924 Vega Whyte Laydie 5 string conversion banjo. (neck was converted from a 4 string to the more popular 5 string.) (old neck is long gone, not included in this sale) Pot Serial number 60776 ( dates -1924). Pot is in great shape for a 90 year old banjo pot. 10-15/16 head size. Plays and sounds great, even on old strings and head! Banjo was well maintained its entire life by a semi pro player. (this was one of many he owned, so it was played, but wasn't in constant use.) Neck is a custom built high quality 5 string conversion neck from the 60's in the style of a Tubaphone #9 neck & inlays but as a 5 string. (Not sure of maker?) 19-1/2 neck heal to nut, ebony 22 fret neck. ebony fret board is very nice, no major wear. binding is nice as well. frets are in nice shape with no dings etc. Pearl inlays are all in great shape with no major scratches etc. Vintage 5 star planetary tuners are all snug and hold tune great. Has a vintage 5 string sliding capo. Neck is straight and true. Neck was built with a modern adjustable truss rod, (more stable than the original non- truss rod necks these banjo's originally came with as 4 string models in 1924.) all the metal hardware is in nice original shape and works accordingly. could use professional cleaning and set up to new owners spec. tortoise binding around resonator in great shape. resonator wood and finish is in great original shape, shows honest usage, minor scratches etc, but nothing major) Older waverly fiberskin head, still sounds great, nice vintage look. wood bridge is in nice shape. Neck wood is high grade birdseye quilt flame maple. Overall finish on neck shows lacquer checking, (common with vintage era nitro lacquer) still smooth entire length of rear playing surface on neck, nice vintage feel!  lacquer check flakes being more on the rear of the head stock where some has fallen away to bare wood (great relic look!) (see pics)  Banjo lived in a smoke free home. Vintage case is in great shape. (age unkown?) No major rips on tears. latches all work, but show tarnish/ rust common with age-relic. keyed latch works but is stiff both ends. (no key.) Overall condition is pretty good for a 90+ year old banjo pot with a custom 60's 5 string conversion neck! great players grade piece! ask questions?
