Yamaha YOB-421 oboe (intermediate model)Product DescriptionThis is a used Yamaha YOB-421 oboe (serial number 890613), an intermediate level instrument with a grenadilla wood body. It features a Conservatoire-system mechanism with semi-automatic octave keys. The YOB-421 model was in production between 1989 and 2004. This particular instrument was purchased by its previous owner in 2002, and was recently offered in part exchange for a brand new Howarth S40 here at Rosehill. The oboe has been well looked after during its life, and since we acquired it has been checked and serviced by us, meaning it is in excellent playing order and ready for immediate use.The YOB-421 model is extremely elusive online and is not listed on Yamaha's European or USA websites, even as a discontinued model. Specifications are consequently hard to come by. However we have gleaned what we can and enlisted the help of our woodwind technicians to verify our description; we have also taken photographs to highlight pertinent areas of the key-work.A piece of key-work on the lower joint has been modified by a skilled repairer: the modification can be clearly seen in the photographs since the affected area has not been re-silvered. The purpose of the modification is to hold down the low C key when a low B or B flat is being played. This is a useful feature which enhances the playability of the instrument, and one which is now a standard feature on many modern instruments. We can sometimes offer home trial for assessment; should this be of interest, please make contact via our showroom by email or telephone.Features (copied from another website)"Yamaha's intermediate model oboes feature a design based upon our top Custom models, and are made with the same painstaking care; the same artisans oversee every step in their production. These oboes offer accurate intonation, balanced response, and exquisite tone. The 421 has a Conservatoire key system with semi-automatic octave keys, and the body is made from top quality, carefully seasoned grenadilla."SpecificationsConservatoire system, covered keys, semi-automatic octave keys3rd octave key, left-hand F key, fork F resonance key7 cork, 16 felt padsTrill keys: C#-D#, F#-G#, Ab-Bb, A#-B, B-C#, C-DGrenadilla bodySilver-plated nickel silver keysAs this is a used instrument it is not supplied with any accessories, including reeds; please contact us via eBay if you require any additional items.ConditionGood condition for the age and following a full service on site, by one of our highly experienced woodwind technicians, it is in excellent mechanical order; all necessary pads have been replaced, key-work polished and the wood checked. The joints fit together well and the keys have a nice action.Returns/WarrantyIf on initial inspection you are disappointed in any way, you may return it and receive a full refund. Following long service in the Salvation Army as a player and conductor, his reputation led to requests to supply instruments around the UK and overseas.
