A good antique english violin made by Jason T. Maddocks, Leeds 1947.A good english violin made by Jason T. Maddocks in Leeds, 1947. Maddocks was rather an amateur maker, but his work is interesting by the quality of the woods employed, his elegant model and his varnish. The top is made of two parts of a very fine spruce and shows regular narrow grain lines. The back is made of two parts of an highly flamed maple, the curl descending from the center joint. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The violin shows a beautiful brown oil varnish, entirely original, and in a good condition. The violin is in a good shape, with only a little repair under the tailpiece which is stable, and some wear to the varnish at chinrest and button, showing it has been well played. The violin has been revised and set-up, including a set of heart shaped ebony & bone pegs in the baroque style, a rosewood tailpiece with ebony fret, a Despiau bridge and Thomastik Dominant new strings set. The endpin and chinrest are original. The violin is guaranteed 100% authentic. On the inside back can be found the original label of the maker, "19 47 (the date separed by a cross) Jas T Maddocks Leeds late Birkenroad".Dimensions are the following :LOB : 362 mm.Upper bouts : 171 mm.Middle bouts : 114 mm.Lower bouts : 209 mm.The instrument comes with a new rectangular case of quality. Insured shipping to USA $75 and Europe $45. Happy bidding !
