NEW PICTURES ADDED ON 4/27/17It is only the reflection of leaves on the trees that you see in the brilliant chromeEarly 1970's Slingerland 4"x 14" Buddy Rich Piccolo Snare Drum Rarely offered and highly collectible is this early 70's Slingerland 4"x 14" Buddy Rich Piccolo Snare Drum with the original Black Beauty Pearl finish. This is the 5-ply maple shell Buddy Rich 4"x 14" piccolo with 16 straddled lugs, stick saver hoops and the zoomatic strainer system. This one here is in excellent condition throughout and actually looks much better than it does in the pictures. It was way too windy outside so I shot most of the photos indoors. I did not use a flash because of the glare caused by the flash and the indoor lighting was not very good at the time I shot the photos. Both the chrome and the black finish are a lot more shiny than it looks in the pictures. The 3 pictures of the inside of the drum were shot outdoors where the lighting was much better than the others that were shot indoors. I may try to take better pictures outdoors when the conditions are a little better for that.Update: The new pictures just added were shot outdoors for natural lighting.I still have the other pics if you need to see them. This 5-ply maple shell is in perfect round and both micro beveled bearing edges are in excellent condition. The original black beauty wrap does have some very minor surface scratches on it here and there but you really cant see any from about 2 feet away and besides a good amount of the shell on these beauties is covered in hardware anyway. All the chrome on this bad boy is near mint and I mean all the chrome including all 16 lugs, all 16 tension rods, both stick saver hoops and the special piccolo version zoomatic strainer and the standard butt. The throw lever on the strainer does have that typical wear scratch on it from where it can sometimes rub against the inside of the strainer housing but otherwise it is near perfect and works like new. I forgot to wipe this drum down before the pictures so there is probably a little dust and maybe some light fingerprints on it which will clean right off with very little effort. Both hoops are in perfect round and they both lay dead flat on a thick glass table top. There is not the slightest scratch or dent anywhere on these hoops and all 16 tension rods are straight as an arrow with excellent threads and heads. The black & silver Niles badge number 196202 should put this one right around 1972 which just happens to be the first year of the new 5-ply shells. According to the 1973 Slingerland catalog this model did not come with a factory installed muffler but you can easily install one if that's what you wanted to do. If you want I will even throw in a period correct and excellent condition Slingerland muffler for free only if you purchase this drum for the buy it now price. The muffler installation will require 2 additional holes to be drilled in the shell so I personally chose not to install one as to not mess with the originality of the shell. The original heads have been replaced with a Coated Remo controlled sound reverse dot batter head and a Ludwig X-Thin Clear snare side head. Both heads are lightly used and are still in great playing condition. The original 20 strand wires have also been replaced with a set of genuine Slingerland 16 strand Snappy wire snares and they are in great condition. The last 2 photos with some included info on this model were taken from the vintage drum guide web site so you know their info has to be accurate. The great thing about the black beauty pearl finish is that its a neutral color and will go just fine with any other color drums. This is a very sensitive and powerful snare drum and all adjustments are in perfect working order. I noticed another one of these that's up for grabs right now on eBay with the blue sparkle finish. He was asking $1050,00 for it with the shipping and then he lowered the price earlier today to about $1000 with the shipping. Here is your chance to pick one up that I think is in better condition for a whole lot less plus a black snare sure would look a whole lot nicer with a red or gold kit than a blue snare would. I have probably sold over 100 snare drums on eBay with more than 100 happy buyers so you know you can bid and buy with 100% confidence. I am maxed out on the 12 photo spots but if you are a serious bidder/buyer I will be happy to send you some more pictures if you need them. I may still change some of these pictures out to different ones sometime before this auction ends.Heads up: Once a bid has been placed the buy it now option is no longer available. I do my best to accurately describe all items in great detail but please view all photos as they are part of the item description and the cosmetic condition. All my items are very well packed to ensure they arrive in the exact same condition as you see them in the photos.
