1970 Gibson Melody Maker Bass. Comes with original Gibson case. I bought it used in 1972. Every time I take it to a gig the bass players in the crowd come up during breaks and have to strap it on and play it.  I have had a lot of offers to buy over the years, but I thought I would never part with it. The only reason that I'm selling now is to help my wife out before I am gone. I'm getting really old now, and that's the reason for my parting with my old friend. The original owner put a natural Mahogany finish on the body, but the entire neck and headstock were left original. In the 70's, natural finished basses were the cool thing, so many were refinished back then.       The electronics are all functioning perfectly as they always have. It has never let me down. This is a Short Scale bass, and as such it has a really nice low bassy tone, and a very fast action. There are some natural cracks in the clearcoat on the neck and headstock, giving it a real vintage look. If there are no finish cracks in Old Gibson Nitro-Cellulose, it is highly unusual. No scratches or dings at all on the body. If You are looking for an unusual, attention-getting bass, this one is definitely for You.        The case alone is in very good shape, unusual for these old cases. I turned down $300 for the case, because this would be an original case for a '68 Les Paul or SG also. In those days You got to choose which case You wanted when You bought Your guitar. There is a cracked area on the butt of the case where the strap button has weakened the fiberboard over the years. I have repaired it, but You can still see that it was cracked. Really, it happened to just about all of them. Vintage Gibson Vibe can be Yours for a very reasonable price. You will not be sorry for putting this great old bass in Your lineup. You can't go wrong with a nice vintage Gibson. Thank You for looking.I reserve the right to end this auction at any timeInternational shipping rates higher due to required private insurance.
