Description
A chance to acquire an historically interesting bow that is in beautiful condition and ready to play!Weichold / Nurnberger violin bow, unstamped, from about 1910. Nickel silver mounted. Weight just under 57 grams. Very nicely made round pernamb' stick, dead straight and with a good camber and no damage, cracks or repairs. Beautifully shaped head. Frog and button in very good condition, fit well and work perfectly. A typical German bow of the period - not as springy as a French bow - but well balanced and easily controlled, producing a good tone with plenty of bass in it. In extremely good overall condition having been unplayed for many years. Provenance: I acquired this bow with others at auction. I thought it looked like the best of the bunch so - as I play violin myself - decided to have it re-haired and fitted with a new thumb grip and lapping. The archetier advised me that the bow is German - most likely Nurnberger / Weichold circa 1900 - 1920 - information that happened to correspond with a document that had come through with the auction lots and I had not been able to match with a specific bow. It appears that the bow was valued at £275 in 1979, probably for insurance purposes, which seems about right when you consider today's dealer prices for bows of this quality.Anyway, I've decided to sell it because I have another German bow that suits me better and I can't really justify keeping a bow of this quality and not using it. Hopefully this will go to someone who's going to enjoy playing it.
