You're bidding on a beautiful Schmelzer Model 1 trombone, handmade in 1993 in Gladbach, Germany by Manfred Schmelzer himself. I used this horn professionally for years and it served me very well.Model 1 means it is a .500 bore with a 7.8" bell. Perfect for a jazz combo, lead playing in a big band, recording work, or any solo work. It's a great middle-ground between a King 2B and 3B.The overall condition of the horn is 9.5/10, as evidenced by the pictures. This horn is SO lightweight. Playing on a 4 hour gig feels so comfortable and is so easy compared to almost any other horn I've used. It's very free blowing and open, with a rich sound that really brightens marvelously with a little push. The slide on the Schmelzer feels like a dream; it's honestly the best slide I've ever played. With that said, there are two ~1mm diameter spots of plating wear on opposite sides of one of the inners, the other inner is 100%. They are both pictured above. I don't feel any bumps at all and I've used both SuperSlick and Yamaha lube (at seperate times). I had the slide aligned and adjusted by Freddy at Dillon Music maybe four months ago. There are a few tiny little dings in the bell but you can barely notice them. The tuning slide has never had a single dent. I think the previous owner used a silver polishing cloth on the gold at one point, because there are some swirl marks, but as you can see it still glistens. Because these horns are custom, they typically don't have serial numbers, but since this is an early model it has one. I verified the age of the horn directly with Manfred using this serial number. The entire horn is gold plated unlike some of the modern ones where the slides, braces, or some small parts weren't plated. The only places with plating loss are where your thumb rests on the bell brace, and on the hand grip for the slide, other than that it's totally intact. It comes with the original hard case, which is in great condition but isn't pictured. Horn will be shipped in the case with TONS of extra padding.
