1940's Orpheum Electric Acoustic Archtop Guitar - All Mahogany w Case - Kay
Estimated price for orientation: 575 $
Category: Acoustic Electric Guitars
Class:
Description
1940's archtop guitar with Orpheum branding - solid wood construction. Orpheum's are a little hard to trace but I'm fairly sure this is a Kay from the 1940's. It has Kay style f-holes and headstock - and the scale is 25 3/4". Probably the best sounding acoustic I've ever played - any brand - the overtones just ring on and on at the end of a note -- Mahogany body and neck - rosewood fingerboard and bridge. New Schaller type tuning pegs - new pickguard and a new slimline suspended humbucker pickup - 7.1 kOhms, good for jazz or blues - it has a little more growl than a single coil, but still a fairly clean sound. --- There's a screw in the neckjoint covered with putty to hold a reset in place - it's the Kay way and it's solid. -- Plays easy up and down the fingerboard with a string height of 1/8" bass side and 3/32" treble, measured at the 12th fret - good for heavy strumming blues or picking lead - lightweight and ready to gig. A period Chicago chipboard case is included.Length - 41"
Scale - 25 3/4"
Lower bout - 15 1/2"
Upper bout - 11 1/4"
Depth - 3 3/4"
Weight - 5 lbs
