Shergold Custom Masquerader
Late 1970sPerfect intonation, smooth straight neck. Recently set up. Electronics are all working, but volume pot can be scratchy at times (old stuff can be fussy). Guitar has one mod: 6 holes were drilled through the body behind the bridge to give better tension for lead playing, but the original stuff is there if you'd like to string it the original way. I found that when notes were bent a whole step, the string tended to slip out of the saddles as the guitar was originally meant to play rhythm. The mod also gives the guitar way better sustain and resonance. No case or bridge cover (both of those things are very rare to have). These guitars are very solid and have the characteristically superb neck that all the Shergolds share. The versatile electronics make these ideal general purpose guitars. They are also famous for the checkering on the finish. This one is superb. Some dings and scratches, very road worthy (see pics). Plays like a dream. Coil-Tap pickups (can be humbucker or single coil with the flick of a switch) with three-way selectors. Perfect intonation, sustain, and stays in tune. Pickups and electronics are all original. Why buy a new guitar when there are still dreamy vintage ones to be had for under a grand? Made famous by The Cure and Joy Division, as well as Julian Cope, Genesis and Caravan. These were made by the folks from Burns guitars (which sell for thousands), but most folks don't know that the Shergolds they made for only a few years are just as wonderful and well-built. They also made the Hayman guitars people love so much.Shergolds are very rare, and people always ask, "what is that guitar?".
