This Tommys Special Guitar Stratocaster in Candy Apple Red was built by Tommy Metz who owned a guitar store in Viersen (Germany) until he suddenly and sadly passed away just over a year ago. Tommy was by all accounts an extremely passionate human being with a "guitar heart" who started his own guitar shop (Tommy's Guitar Lounge) at the tender age of 19 and eventually started building his own instruments. This candy apple red Stratocaster was made in 1999, it weighs in at 3,3kg and features an alder body, pearloid pickguard containing 3 Fender Custom Shop single coil pickups and standard Stratocaster control setup, vintage style tremolo, C shaped maple neck with slab rosewood fretboard and Telecaster headstock and Kluson tuners. one of the first Master Builders in the early days of the Fender Custom Shop, noted for his artful vision and superb craftsmanship.
The Rock-It-Tone, which Fred first presented to Fender but was shot down in marketing,
is entirely handbuilt and crafted by Fred in his California shop and features a number of design elements that honor electric guitar tradition,
yet beeing entirely unique.
The single coil pickups are created in the spirit of Paul Bigsby's early pickup designs and sound big and bold, voiced with an old style character. They are hand built and wound by Fred, whose custom wound Blackguard pickups are highly regarded.
A four way switch offers both series and parallel combinations, from a Tele's twang to the thick rumbling grit of a 50's P-90.
Comes including brown hand-tooled Western Case.
