Description Brand: Vega Model: Folklore Banjo Type: Longneck Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Number of Strings: 5 Era: 1962 Exact Year: 1962-64
For sale is a circa 1962-64 (Boston, pre-Martin) Vega longneck banjo. Postal zip codes starting being used in 1963, so I think this one is likely to be from 1962-63 due to the label showing no Zip. The Folklore model is the long-neck one with the wooden rim, no tone-ring. It has a solid, full, old-time tone and is fun to play especially in the low, open E tuning. This one is all original as far as I can tell with only one exception. A maple or birch heel cap has been installed (stained black), by a pretty good but probably amateur luthier. It's o.k., but its looks could be improved a bit with some better final finishing skill.I put a nice bridge on this one. The head is original "Vegalon" and soiled in places from what looks like old residue from electrician's tape (?). Looks a little funky but has no real practical effect. Also, there are small pock marks in the finish on the back of the neck. I recognize these as leftovers from vinyl transfer blisters when someone obviously left a vinyl strap laying under the neck in the case years ago (a common mistake in the 1970's).Despite these accumulated 55 years of cosmetic blemishes, there are no structural problems or damage issues. The neck is straight, the neck joint-to-body connection is tight & right, the tuners work, there is plenty of fret life left and so on. It is very playable right out of the case. It could be improved with a geared 5th string tuner upgrade from the original non-geared Grover. It comes with an very worn but original chipboard case. I will bubble wrap it very securely and make sure it gets to you in good shape.Sold as is, honestly represented, with no returns. Please look closely at pics and ask any & all questions before bidding. I highly value my 100% satisfaction rating and want you to be glad you bought this nice banjo from me. Shipping will be via FedEx Ground within the Continental U.S.with full insurance for the sale price.
