New Guinea Slit-log Drum, Garamut -( Kandu, Kayan? Tribe)Sepic River. Produces deep resonating sound which carriesfar during ceremonies. Classic Sepic River woodcarving onhardwood, with colorful wavy designs along sides, such as used on their canoes. 48"long x 18"hi x 8"wide (120cm x 28cm x 20cm). Has small base protruding from bottom end. Drumstick has carved head of a crocodile on one end. Collected 1974 during our filming of tribal dances. Will includefree DVD of our film on ethnic dances. Sorry for the high cost of packing & shipping, but it is such a heavy artifact....and well worth it.
