This is a very nice full size English violin of the Furber School, ca. 1810. It's set up and ready to play. The body is 355 mm. Also included is an old W. E. Hill wooden case which needs a bit of restoration. The violin did not come in this case and in fact it's a squeeze to get it into the case because the pegs make it too "wide". It will go, but it's tight. I purchased the violin from a French Dealer, Ames-Anciennes in 2015 and repaired the issues it had, altho there's a spot or two on the ribs that could use varnish retouch. The worst is shown in a picture of the endpin. I believe the varnish is original. It has a new bass bar and the neck was reduced from a thicker baroque neck to a modern shape. There are no sound post cracks. The violin has a very pretty one piece back and a well proportioned scroll. The pegs are old, if not original and the peg holes have been bushed. The violin alone cost much more than I am asking, and the case is just a bonus as it needs repairs. But it's a nice accessory and somewhat rare. There is no label in the violin; the attribution is from the certificate which will be included. It sounds good to my ears and is relatively easy to play. I am selling this because we are downsizing to a fairly small apartment and there's just no room for my violin collection, much less a lot of other stuff I have. |
