Estimated price for orientation: 1 500 $
Category: Other Vintage Guitars
Class:
Description Brand: Kay Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Body Colour: Natural Maple and Sunburst
Here's a very rare opportunity to acquire a fabulous USA Kay Value Leader 'Old Kraftsman' K1963 triple pickup vintage electric in amazing condition for it's age. Built circa 1963. Lowell Fulson and Jimmy Reed both played these models.Bought from the States a few years ago - love it but selling as other things to buy. All original except I had it professionally refretted so it would play really well, and it does. The original frets were not in great condition. New nut and new Gotoh vintage style tuners which work great. Action is excellent, low-medium and adjustable via the original Kay floating bridge, which is also in superb condition. Tuning holds well, neck plays great - feels good in the palm, quite chunky C shape out the back and very comfortable.Three volumes and three tones for the pups and a selector switch has a 'blender' position so you can run two of the pups out of phase to get that great nasal tone - T Bone Walker etc. All switches are original. The body is hollow so very lightweight so no shoulder pain. The back strap button is original but the front is likely to be a later addition.Pickups and electrics all work just as they should. They very much have their own tone which I love for that retro blues vibe. Acoustically it is loud and fun to play unplugged.Intonation is great and easily adjustable. There is tarnishing on the bridge plate. The original red neck markers look stunning. The maple body finish is as good as it looks in the photos.Plenty of dings and chips and paint crackle but it is very old! I'm not selling it cheap as it's so good and the chances of finding a wonderfully playable vintage Kay in this condition with no work needed, is extremely unlikely. I don't really mind if it doesn't sell.I did a demo with it on You Tube a few years ago - it's a bit quiet but just gives a tonal flavour...I have an original chipboard case for it somewhere but if it ships via UPS Courier outside the UK, I will send in a hardshell Les Paul which is a great fit, plus regular outer packaging of course. If you want to collect you'll get the guitar in it's original chipboard case - just to clarify.
