Up for sale, a 1965 Epiphone Sorrento, model E452TDN, in exceptional, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. 100% original aside from a recent professional refret, this Epi features a particularly rare and stunningly clean natural nitro lacquer finish. While Sunburst and Royal Olive Sorrentos are seen with some regularity (although only slightly over 2000 guitars total were produced in the model's original ten year production run), Natural examples are exceedingly uncommon and command a premium. Produced in the USA under the ownership of Gibson at their Kalamazoo, Michigan factory, this Epiphone Sorrento is an exceptional instrument sure to delight serious collectors and players alike.Essentially a humbucker equipped version of Gibson's ES-125TD model, the Sorrento is in a class all its own, with a fully hollow 16" wide body and a clear, bell-like tone that has the fullness of a humbucker and the sparkle and top end of a single coil. These early mini humbuckers are glassy and rich, with more growl and cut in the bridge position, and a neck pickup that has the girth and detail you desire. Acoustically, the guitar has a defined, powerful tone that barks with surprising projection and attack, sonic properties which are also evident in the plugged in sound of the instrument. This Sorrento weighs only 5lbs 14oz and balances well on a strap. The guitar has also been professionally setup with 11-50 strings here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.The neck has a comfortable medium C profile that is fairly slender down at the nut in terms of overall depth, growing a touch chunkier in the higher registers of the fretboard. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard features the pearl oval inlays and a recent professional refret. The current frets are virtually unplayed with perfectly rounded crowns and are roughly "medium jumbo" in size, matching the width of the original fretwire, with a touch more height and roundness than an Epiphone/Gibson factory fret dress. The nut measures just a hair shy of 1 5/8", and is a transitional width that is very comfortable for easy chording and accurate lead work. On the headstock, the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines are intact with clean white buttons. All of the electronics work as they should, with the previously noted original Gibson nickel cover mini humbucker and an untouched wiring harness with stock reflector cap knobs. The bridge is the original nickel ABR-1 with retainer wire and appropriate foundry stamp on the base. The rosewood bridge base is very clean, as is the white three-ply pickguard with stock Epiphone Epsilon "E" sticker.Cosmetically, this is an extremely clean and original Sorrento with a vibrant  and 100% original natural finish that shows zero touchup or overspray. There is very faint vertical lacquer checking across the body and slightly more prominent checking across the neck profile. There is only the faintest yellowing of the clear nitro lacquer across the natural maple body too. There's a bit of light patina on the pickup covers and bridge saddles and a couple shallow tiny nicks on the back of the guitar and around the headstock edges, but as the photos show, this is a stunningly clean vintage example. The original black textured hardshell case with plush blue interior is included.
