Description
Up for your consideration is a very rare guitar. It bears an old label inside that reads: Passauer Gitarre aus Dem Nächlasse: Katharina von Wimmer geb. von König 1749 - 1824 According to the label, this Passau guitar is from the estate of Katharina von Wimmer (1749 - 1824), who was born von König (or born from king), apparently someone of high status back then. Passau is a German town located in Eastern Bavaria, on the border Germany- Austria ( Hitler spent a few years of his childhood in Passau). Measurements: Total length: 90 cm Body length: 43.5 cm Body width: 28 cm This guitar was originally bought in Germany, and I remember I had trouble getting it shipped out of the country because it falls into the category of culturally important articles and generally was not permitted to be shipped out, according to the regulations in Germany’s law of cultural heritage protection. The guitar is offered for restoration. It has a number of cracks on the top plate and back, as shown in the pictures. If properly restored, however, there is no reason that this precious guitar shouldn't sound 100% as good as it did when new - probably will produce better tone and sound with the wood that has aged for over 200 years. The guitar is sold as is. Please review the photos carefully. Buyers from outside North America will need to pay much higher postage. Thank you for viewing.
