From local collector estate...to EbayAntique Vinaccia mandolin with pear shaped back, mother of pearl inlay on the fingerboard, foliate decoration around the soundhole, made circa 1898.The inside is labelled “Flli. Genro. ed Alle. Vinaccia Fu Ple, Fabbricanti di Strumenti armonici, Di SM. la Regina d'Italia, Rua Catalana No. 53, Napoli, anno 1891” and the label has also been over-signed by the maker, see detail photograph. The mandolin is in its original superb untouched condition and looks not to have any repairs. I know very little about mandolins and if you have any questions I will do my best to answer them. Bowl is solid and with no cracks or splits anywhere. Small part (about 2" ) of wood edge decoration is missing (see photo # 10), missing one of bridge tip by the sound hole (see photo # 3, #11) and two scratch marks in front (see photo #11). Small white stain showing in photo # 10 will be easy to remove its some kind paint.Excellent inside label.Fingerboard with mop decoration and triangle on the back it also mop.Sound hole with mop and abalone ornament.No case!Dimensions is approx:24" Overall Length7.75" at widest point in body9.5" fingerboard length 5.75" body depth at heelThis is a lovely antique instrument.Sold AS.
