Blues Vintage Guitars Inc., one of Nashville, Tennessee's premier buyers and sellers and vintage and newer high-end guitars, is very proud to offer this incredible vintage 1967 Gibson ES-335 semi-hollowbody guitar in pristine condition, and with a magnificent Sparkling Burgundy finish - which happens to be one of Gibson's RAREST and most beautiful finishes of all-time!
This was a true "closet find." This gorgeous ES-335 from 1967 is an uncirculated, one-owner guitar, and it was purchased directly from the guitar's original owner. In fact, this is the second ES-335 purchased by the original owner. He initially purchased a 1966 ES-335 with a Vintage Sunburst finish, and liked it so much that one year later he went back to the same music store in Tennessee and purchased this one. The other one - the 1966 ES-335 in Vintage Sunburst - is available exclusively in one of our other eBay auctions, and also thru our store, Blues Vintage Guitars, Inc., in beautiful Nashville, Tennessee.
This amazing ES-335 has been played, but it also has been very well maintained. For starters, we don't believe the guitar has ever been taken apart. We also don't think it's ever had any work done to it. It appears to be 100% original, with an absolutely gorgeous original finish, original black Gibson hardshell case, ORIGINAL EVERYTHING!!!Upon inspecting this beautiful guitar for the very first time, we found it needed NOTHING but a simple setup and a slight and very light cleaning. It is quite obvious the guitar's only owner kept it in a humidity controlled environment. Even the original case is in EXCELLENT shape for its age, though it does have a few nicks and dings, and frayed edges. However, it is completely intact. All hinges, latches and handle are intact and operable.
Seriously folks, this is arguably one of the nicest mid-1960s Gibson ES-335 guitars on the market today ... ESPECIALLY WITH THIS FINISH! It is in absolutely stunning condition, and there is nothing wrong with the guitar. It needs absolutely NOTHING! As stated above, we simply gave it a very light cleaning and general setup. The guitar plays and sounds as nice as it looks. Pictures simply do not do it justice. This is a guitar that needs to be played to be fully appreciated. Please take a close look at all 53 pictures below ... they tell the full story.Everything on this beautiful Gibson ES-335 checks out. There is nothing about it that would give anyone any doubt whatsoever as to what it is. All electronics, pickups, tuners, nut, pickguard, every screw, bridge saddle, EVERYTHING, is completely 100% original to this guitar as it was the day it left the Gibson factory in 1967.
One thing we'd like to point out is that the guitar appears to have originally been finished with Gibson's more common Cherry finish. But as was the case with most custom color orders during the 1960s (Sparkling Burgundy was available ONLY in 1966. 1967 and 1968), Gibson took an ES-335 already painted with a Cherry finish and simply repainted it with the Sparkling Burgundy finish that had been custom ordered. One indicator is that the original label inside the guitar is stamped "ES-335 TDC", with the "C" designating a Cherry finish. The second indicator is it appears that you can see the Cherry finish under the also original Sparkling Burgundy finish in two or three of the guitar's very light finish dings. Take a closer look at the pictures below and you'll see what we're talking about. Please note, however, that this was a common practice at Gibson in the 1960s, just as it was at many of the other major guitar manufacturers during this time. In fact, the factory workers at Fender Guitars were notorious for doing this. Just they did many, many times at Fender Guitars, when an order arrived for a custom color, the workers at Gibson would take one of the guitars already finished and waiting to be shipped out and simply spray the new custom-ordered finish over the finish already on the guitar. Again, this was common practice and takes NOTHING away from the overall condition and/or value of this magnificent instrument. In fact, it just adds to its "vintage" and very "cool" vibe!
The guitar itself has some very light finish checking (barely noticeable), and a few very, very light nicks and/or dings. We have tried our best to show everything in the pictures below. Simply stated, the Sparking Burgundy finish on this ES-335 is just magnificent, as much as it is RARE. It doesn't get much better than this!!!
