A fine antique french 18th violin made by Didier Nicolas ainé circa 1820 for restoration.A fine early 19th century french violin made by the well-known maker Didier Nicolas Ainé in Mirecourt circa 1820. The top is made of a single piece of spruce, and shows narrow and regular straight grain lines widening at the left. The back is made of a single piece of flamed maple, the curl horizontal. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The neck and head are original. The varnish is of a brown color on a golden ground.This instrument is proposed for restoration. It is in good condition but shows bass bar and sound post repairs with cleats on the top inside. The pegs, nut and the fingerboard need to be changed, or at least revised. Once properly revised and set-up, this fine Nicolas Ainé violin will be a fantastic instrument. The violins made by this maker are well known for their powerful concert sound. They are harder and harder to find, especially for restoration.On the inside back can be found the original triangular fire brand of Didier Nicolas Ainé "à la ville de Cremonne". It was hidden by a false Bernardel label that we took off. At the opposite, near the sound post, can be found the remains of Didier Nicolas signature "Didier Nicolas Ainé à Mirecourt"...he violin has been revised and set-up, including a rosewood tailpiece with bone fret, the matching chinrest, a Despiau bridge and Thomastik Dominant new strings set. The pegs are early 20th century and still fit nicely. Dimensions are the following :LOB : 364 mm.Upper bouts : 175 mm.Middle bouts : 123 mm.Lower bouts : 211 mm.The instrument comes with a new rectangular case of quality.
