Fine 1997 viola by Nikolai Tambovsky, well-known Russian luthier located based in Florida. The instrument is in excellent condition, 16.5 inches, very lightweight and of course incredibly good-looking. It has a bright, big sound, is responsive, and fun to play. Bridge is new, made by Joan Balter, a Berkeley-based luthier, new strings, new soundpost. Comes with case, bow (needs rehairing), and rosin. This instrument lasted me through graduate school at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and though I love it I have inherited an instrument that I prefer. It would be a shame that this viola couldn't be played by an advanced student or professional. Tambovsky's instruments are now more expensive than they used to be, and are increasingly in demand. He told me himself when I purchased the instrument that it was part of his personal collection. Because of a blemish (cosmetic only) and a crack that was nicely repaired, I am selling the instrument for less than half value. Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding this instrument.
