A real chance to own a piece of audio history, the ultra rare and legendary Dytronics CS-5! These 'holy grail' of chorus effect studio rack units were offered to high-flying LA studio producers only (aside from the identical Dyno My Piano version, which was originally intended as an add-on for Fender Rhodes units) providing a thick, streamlined chorus which avoids traditional seasick tones, instead a sonic epitrochoid in which three choral voicings 'chase' each other. These units were made popular by Andy Summers (The Police), Steve Lukather (Toto) and Michael Landau (Richard Marx), although more intensively by Dann Huff of Giant (I am throwing in their first two albums to hear the Dytronics in all its glory). There are a fair few demos of the Dytronics CS-5 on YouTube if you wish to hear these units in action! This Dytronics CS-5 has been professionally upgraded by an amp tech with a 230V torodial transformer for both quieter operation and native use in the UK/Europe, so no more risky voltage converters for these precious units. Please read:Sadly, its dual optocouplers which control the LFO (low frequency oscillator) were worn out after 33 years of service, causing intermittent noise and instability in the circuit, so since has been professionally removed. These are vintage Japanese parts which are long out of production and I am unable to obtain replacements. However, the Dytronics CS-5 is a workhorse and will not go down without a fight, so I have coupled a Lovepedal 'Beardsman' pedal into the deal which features not one, but two LFO dials which allow for an even deeper chorus which can easily delve into flanging territory if required (I always heard the Dytronics as more of a flanger to my ears, in fact). This is the only pedal to my knowledge in existence with dual LFO dial and as such, faithfully restores the Dytronics' LFO circuit back to how it should sound when it was new (listen to Steve Perry's 'Against The Wall' intro for the type of sonic lushgasm we are talking about here). Preset iconic tri-chorus mode functions perfectly as intended, which is needed in the mix for the full effect. I found it works best first in the signal chain before the CS-5, but experimentation is always key to a great sound, so the effects loop on your amp (if you have one) may be the best placement for the Lovepedal? Will be extremely well packed and tracked, the only reason I am sad to see this go is that Amplitube 4 now feature this unit on Fulltone's 'That 80s Rack Chorus' software based on their (somewhat inferior) hardware re-issue of the Dytronics CS-5, so I am trying to raise funds for that and a new MacBook Pro for my ever-evolving home recording studio!
