It's in our opinion (which is shared by many others), this is the best broadcast / film quality field recorder at this price point (£650 - £750 when new) with timecode and 24bit/192KHz recording and so much more to recommend it, it represents great value for money for a broadcast quality portable location recorder.

Batteries are not included, you'll need 8 AA batteries, although while you're learning how to use the menus, you can plug in the power adapter supplied to power it or connect it to a computer via its' firewire port and have your computer power it.
Power OptionsBattery: 8 x AA batteries give 3 - 5 hours of non stop recording.If you're intending on using this recorder often and running it on batteries then there are some powerful high-capacity rechargeable batteries out there on the market. Some deals even include the charger. Make sure you get 1.5 volt AA batteries that hold at least 2,400 mAh and even more if you can afford them.

The HD-P2 records in stereo from 44.1kHz to 192kHz, at 16- or 24-bit, to affordable Compact Flash media. Not only is Compact Flash absolutely silent, so no transport noise will show up on your recording, but the recorded audio is written directly as Broadcast WAVE files for immediate use in digital audio workstations. The unit even includes a FireWire jack for the fastest possible transfer of files to your PC or Mac computer.The professional design of the HD-P2 extends to convenient details that pro users will appreciate. The Retake button allows the user to delete the last recording and set up to re-record with a single button press. As audio is recorded, the file headers are continually re-saved to protect your recording against accidental data loss. Files can be named from the front panel interface or using a PS/2 keyboard, which can also be used to control transport and setup features.On the input side, the unit has a pair of XLR mic inputs with phantom power and analogue peak limiting to curb distortion during unpredictable live events.
