Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a very unique and rare Amperite RSHG "velocity" ribbon microphone made in New York City during the mid 1950's and made especially for the I.B.M corporation. I would have to assume these were used at corporate events for many years before being replaced with something newer. This one of the rarest microphones from Amperite and you just rarely see them around. It has a very industrial look to it and built like a tank! Quite large as well and the same size as a 1st generation Shure 55 Fatboy. This was the entry level Amperite ribbon mic being a bit cheaper than the more expensive "studio" R-80-L which was very similar in design. As you can see in the pictures provided this beautiful microphone shows very little wear and the original painted finish is 100% free of any dents, dings, nicks, or scratches. The mic was very well taken care of over the decades and seems to have been stuck in time. It has the original IBM badge on the base. The actual base can be removed with the twist of a screw and the mic has the ability to be placed on any American desk or floor stand as seen in pic # 9 if you don't care for the stock base. This mic has been cleaned and tested. It can absolutely be used for recording or broadcasting purposes but know that this mic like many other ribbon mic will need a pre-amp or any amp using phantom power otherwise you don't get a lot of signal.  Phantom power will give this mic 10 times more signal strength and it really sounds beautiful. You really can't use this mic without it. This model does not have an on / off switch or impedance switch...one setting only and it's set for High Z but with an inline transformer it can be changed to Low Z. As soon as the cable is attached...the mic is live. A newer cable with male XLR connector was installed many years back which is a good thing. It's a balanced cable, in excellent shape and 7 feet long.  Info on this variant of the RBHG model are hard to find and these mics were not produced for very long making them uber hard to find and highly collectible. Cosmetically speaking this mic is a 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10. The screens are perfect and the original stand still has the 4 rubber pads on the bottom that are in perfect condition. the base will not scratch any surface you rest this Amperite on. Dimensions for the mic and stand are 6 inches tall X 4 inches wide X 5 1/2 inches deep. The original Amperite box is included and in good condition. A nice bonus as the original boxes are almost impossible to find. Hard enough to find a regular Amperite ribbon mic but one especially made for IBM? Wow! MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IN PIC # 9 IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...for display purposes only. This would make an excellent display piece in the home, office or studio as it's museum quality. Again...uber rare.  As with all my vintage items... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.   If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
