Please see photos. Very nice vintage Fender Artist Banjo, made in USA, circa 1971. Plays & sounds great and this one has a pro installed Barcus-Berry pickup. If you are looking at this, you probably know that the late 60s / early 70s USA made Artist and Concert Tone banjos were probably the best Fender ever made & were well regarded for professional use, in Bluegrass particularly. During that era banjo greats John Hartford and Sonny Osborne both played Fender Artists. This one is Serial # 01744 and has the Santa Ana label, although built in Fullerton. Per online research, this was one of those Fender quirks...they wanted to use up Santa Ana labels. We believe this dates to circa 1971. Also, it has the 'Globe' (rounded) resonator thumbscrews which suggests it is a fairly early Artist. Features Flathead Tone Ring and standard Artist inlays with a bound Rosewood fingerboard on a slim & comfortable neck.Thought to be all original except for 1 tuning peg & Truss rod cover. As mentioned above, this has an old & very well done neck repair. I have shown this in the 4th photo. It appears as a thin line on back of neck with back of neck refinished I assume at the same time. Again, very professional, factory quality work. Neck is straight, Frets are good. I have priced this extremely nice vintage banjo to reflect the repair. It comes in a modern Hardshell case & is sold satisfaction guaranteed. |
