This violin was made by William Wilkanowski--born in Poland in1886, he emigrated to the U.S.A. and worked in shops in Boston and New York City. He made violins, violas, and guitars. There is no evidence of instruments being made by him after 1943. (Research done from Wikipedia) This is a beautiful violin with the inlaid "W" on the back top edge of the body of the instrument. According to Wikipedia, the inlay "W" was done on violins that were all his own work and not made in the shop with assistants. There is a label inside the violin and it has printed the following: W. WILKANOWSKI VIOLIN MAKER Then handwritten it says Serial #2606 and there is another number handwritten #7073. Also on the label there is printed "19___" and in the blank space there is the number 50 hand written--this was perhaps when it was serviced??? I am not a musician and know NOTHING about violins! Welcome all questions--thanks for looking!!
