Soloist mandolin made by the renowned luthier Raffaele Calace & Figlio in 1962, model No.16 bis (with all original elements). The same model was used by Gertrud Troester to record Calace's 10 Preludes. Beautifully made in rosewood channeled round bottom with 33 carved ribs separated by string inlay, ebony fingerboard with 19 frets,mother pearl decoration on marked frets, ribbons around harmonic flat, covered machine head, decoration on head, , pickguard in tortoiseshell with floral mother pearl motifs, armguard in tortoiseshell. Condition: Great playing condition, the top and the pickguard are in great shape and are almost entirely unscratched. The neck is straight. All the ribs in the back are in perfect condition. The head has the original mechanic, the tuners work but are a little hard to turn. The armguard has minor scratches. All frets are functional.This mandolin has a beautiful sound typical of the Calace mandolins, with a very strong bass and bright trebles. Brand new strings Fisoma 80/20 Bronze Medium tension.
