1927 Gibson Mastertone Banjo Rim. Two piece flange rim with original cut for archtop tonering. Gibson label and FON # 8924-3. Nice looking rim with original finish, some scratch's but hardly any other wear, Extra holes for the resonator angle brackets (see pictures). Bottom and top look real good with no separations or cracks. Its even hard to see the laminations on the finished bottom edge. The top of the rim has its original archtop cut and has good splattering of stain on top from 1927 at the Kalamazoo factory. Nice and round rim. To me this is the perfect part and the best place to start building a good sounding banjo. A great rim would be the first thing and a great neck second. Give me those two things and I don't need a tonering at all ! With this rim you can build a prewar 2pc flange, archtop conversion with no modifications to the rim. If you want to you can cut this rim for a flathead tonering. If you still haven't found that sound you can have the rim "turned down for a one piece flange" with the flathead tonering. You can make the full prewar journey ( 2pc archtop to 1pc flathead) starting with this one part. Any banjo you build with this rim will be a #3 Gibson Mastertone. That old wood just has better tone.
