Description Type: Vintage Attenuator Model: 1450-HB Brand: General Radio Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
Classic Vintage Recording Studio & Engineering is selling its 1958 General Radio 1450-HB Balanced H-Pad Stepped Decade Attenuator in excellent restored condition! This is possibly the finest fully-balanced decade attenuator in existence! Built like a tank for many lifetimes of service - this unit appears to have been in service in 1958 with Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation on a US Navy contract. Do not confuse this with cheaper unbalanced General Radio 1450-TA/TB units - this is the more expensive and rare fully-balanced 3-decade H-pad model. These are great for taming down the output of a hot vintage tube compressor (Like a Federal AM-864) or preamp for digital recording input - also great for getting overdrive from tube preamps that don't have an output pad/attenuator.- Standard 600 ohm input&output impedance
- 1 watt - 36 VAC RMS capacity at max attenuation (100+ dB) - should handle just about any tube comp or pre!
- 111dB total attenuation selectable in 10dB/1dB/.1dB steps
- ruler flat frequency response up to 200khz!
- Balanced German Neutrik XLR and balanced 1/4" Switchcraft TRS in/out on back for easy connection to patchbay using Swiss Gotham GAC-2 cable.
- US-made (Cambridge, MA) - high-quality parts - all aluminum construction - custom precision non-inductive resistors - stepped cam-operated switches using ball bearings!
- Original vintage General Radio knobs - looks just like a Fairchild 660/670 metering knob! The unit has been completely refurbished - every inch cleaned - all switch contacts cleaned according to manual (manual is available online) - a few non-inductive resistor elements have been resoldered to get back to spec. Every single setting tested by CVRSE:
10dB 829-HC section has a measured accuracy of +/- .09dB
1dB 829-HB section has a measured accuracy of +/- .015dB
.1dB 829-HB section has a measured accuracy of +/- .002dB
This unit appears to meet the original specs stated in the manual.Flaws: small scratches and scrapes throughout. No returns or refunds on used items like this - so be sure to ask all questions before purchase - I'd be happy to help! Worldwide shipping with full insurance - I've shipped high-end vintage pro audio gear to studios and individuals all over the world with no issues.Feedback policy: I leave feedback after receiving feedback from the buyer. Thanks for looking!
