Description

Please be sure to watch the video tour above AND the pictures listed !1978 Gibson Les Paul 25/50 Anniversary Natural 1977/1978 was a BIG year for Gibson and Mr. Les Paul, himself. These years marked the 25th year that Gibson and Les Paul teamed up and 50 years of Les Paul being in the Music Business. Respectively, these are both the Silver and Gold anniversaries and Gibson went all out to celebrate. Explosive flame tops, awesome 5 piece necks, coil tapping stock for the first time, TP6 tailpieces, commemorative belt buckles and 3,411 of them were made. These are fantastic guitars and a MUST have for any guitar collection. Whether you like the Norlin era or not, these are very well made pieces of art. The Case…   This beauty comes in a non-original hardshell case. The Guitar!   This is one gorgeous guitar! It is in fantastic, well cared for condition that is perfect for the collector/player. The natural finished 25/50s are some of the hardest to find in great condition especially since this finish doesn’t age well if gigged.  The finish on this one has aged gracefully and is looking great! This guitar does have a few boo-boos to cover, but not many.  The coil tap does not function on the neck pickup - liking a wiring issue as the pickup functions just fine. She weighs 11lbs 1oz and has a Slim 60s profiled neck The headstock veneer shows light scratching from string changes, but are generally fairly minor. There are the typical lacquer cracking around the binding of the headstock and a few small checks on the anniversary logo. The Truss Rod Cover itself has some very minor tarnishing/discoloration going on. The original brass nut polished up fine and the frets are in great shape! They show minor wear and the ebony fretboard and Super 400 inlays are in equally great shape. They were just oiled and are ready to be played! The gold and brass hardware show some light tarnishing around the guitar. The faces of the pickup covers are fairly clean and The bridge, tailpiece, posts, tuners and strap buttons also exhibit light tarnishing. The front of the body is a great shape, but does have some common player’s wear. There are fine picking/playing scratches on the top of the guitar that are not very apparent on the natural finish, but there when looking close. 99% of these would likely disappear with a professional polish job. What won’t disappear would be the 3-4 or so small dings around the top – the most notable being the 2 towards the picking hand area. These dings are really only viewable when searching for them in the light.

The 5 piece maple neck is in awesome shape! It has lots of flame on the center piece. Around the 9th fret area there is an area of worn finish that breaks the clear coat. This was caused by the old case it was in. The finish is also indented in a straight line in this area for the same reason and there is a small patch of stand rash here as well as seen in the video tour. The damage is minimal and any competent luthier could touch this area up – though we suggest leaving it as-is, because it really doesn’t affect anything. The back of the guitar is in good shape but exhibits very minor player’s wear as well. When looking straight on, it appears very clean, but once you start searching in the light, some light buckle worming and a 3-4 dings show up. The bottom of the guitar shows some very light stand rash and a few minor dings on the sides. The guitar is all original, but it looks like the pickup leads might have been touched up at one point in time and one of the inside grounding tin screws is missing though this does not affect the security of this plate.   Conclusion   This is a really cool guitar. The top has an awesome flame; grain and mineral streak pattern to it and the neck is to die for as well. This piece is in great, light aged condition and will surely not disappoint the player/collector that is looking for a 25/50. This is one beautiful guitar.
