About Waterslide -
Waterslide Guitars are based in LA, California USA and have been making standout instruments under the Waterslide name since 2013. Made by Waterslide luthier Patrick, his Coodercaster builds have really hit the ground running with being one of the best luthier built coodercasters available.
We're the first dealer outside of the USA to be a Waterslide Guitars dealer, and I'm super proud of that! I too have been captivated by these beautiful looking, and wonderful sounding guitars and hope to bring in lots to the UK to enjoy here on our shores.
So, What is a coodercaster?! Influenced by Ry Cooder's custom Stratocasters he has used throughout his career, these modified Strats have become an instantly recognisable guitar for slide and unique tones not available from a 3 single coil loaded model. Usually fitted with vintage gold foil pickups, or indeed Lap Steel pickups, the aesthetic and tone is something you can't ignore. The Blackie Cooder -
This very guitar is up for grabs from James' Home of Tone. This guitar features a beautifully aged Black over Silver Metallic Nitro Lacquer finish giving it an almost pewter look in certain lighting, on a lightweight Alder body. Really great relic work on this one, has a great character. The guitar weighs in at 8 lbs 4 oz so it's a nice weight for a Coodercaster with tons of sustain & great balance.
The beautiful Flamed Maple neck has a 50's Soft V profile working to a pretty firm V by the nut (.87" - .97") and a 25.5" scale length that's 1 11/16" at the bone nut with a 10" radius and 6105 frets. It has a light, slightly tinted satin finish that feels great and will not get sticky when playing.
The bridge pickup is a Mojo UK 'Valco-Style' Lap Steel Pickup which is very fat sounding with tons of sustain and punch. With this particular guitar having a custom one made with tortoiseshell accent to match the half pickguard, stunning! These are uniquely sensitive pickups which nail the vintage character and tone of the original design. Primarily used by slide players like Ry Cooder, Jason Isbell and Blake Mills, these Lap Steel pickups have a special magic with open tunings and bottleneck playing.
The neck pickup is a Mojo UK Gold Foil pickup which recreates Teisco's design from the 60's. It holds its own with the Lap Steel pickup with a sweet top end and clarity that provides a nice complement, tonally.
The Strat tremolo is by Kluson with a Steel Block and stainless steel saddles.
There's also CTS audio taper pots, a Sprague Orange Drop cap and cloth covered wiring. The vintage-style Bakelite radio knobs tie it all together.
