This is tough for me to do, as this might just be the all-around best guitar I’ve ever had in my possession. It’s hard to explain the differences in this guitar that justify such a price tag, but I am a believer that the R9’s are worth every penny. The harmonic complexities, the balanced tone, the feel and playability…are very much superior to most other guitars I’ve had the pleasure of playing. Weighing in at 9lbs flat, this Les Paul is not a total backbreaker. The ’59 neck profile has changed my mind about chunky necks…it is exquisitely comfortable and easy to play, and the string tension is extremely elastic and forgiving. I have a hard time putting into words how I feel about this guitar. It is, in my humble opinion, the pinnacle of electric guitar building. Loaded with Burstbuckers, this R9 is all-original and comes with original Gibson Custom Shop case (one broken latch), case candy, and COA. It has been played and does show minor signs of wear (light swirling, light worming on the back, a few micro-dings - see detailed photos for condition). The wear, for me, liberates the player in a guitar like this. Some collectors may sneer at any amount of play wear on a ’59 Reissue…but the simple fact is this: this Les Paul deserves to be played, period. If it were dead mint I would not enjoy playing it as much, due to the anxiety of causing the first blemish. Just my opinion…to each their own.
