This is a circa 1939-1941 Recording King Jumbo made by Regal. What I call the poor man's J35. The jumbos that came out of the Regal factory in the late 30s and early 40s are desirable instruments. This particular Recording King would have been sold out of the Montgomery Ward catalog. Regal also built the Washburn branded jumbos that were the same other than a different headstock and bridge shape. Most of these jumbos used Regal's double X bracing pattern which is what this guitar has. This guitar appears to be in mostly original condition. There is significant wear over the entire guitar. I bought it with the intention of having some additional work done but decided not to because it played fine. There are several repairs. Everything has remained completely stable in the approximate 2 years I have been playing it. All of the damage looks to have been repaired cleanly, no gobs of glue on the inside or cleats. The cracks appear to have been repaired with hide glue only. This is an awesome looking pre-war jumbo at a budget price. The Washburn branded Regals bring a premium high above the Recording King brand (typically 3K-5K) and they are identical guitars. These Recording Kings seem to sell between 2k and 3250. You can't really touch any pre-war jumbo for under 5K unless it has significant issues. I think these Regal jumbos are really attractive with the sunburst on the top, back, sides, and neck. The decorative covers over the Kluson strip tuners are a unique touch. There's a great video by The Fretboard Journal featuring Kenny Smith demonstrating what these Regal built jumbos can do titled "Three from '37." I think these guitars really excel when flatpicked. There is a video of this guitar being played. Message me and I can send you a link to view. It comes with what I believe to be it's original chipboard case. It will be shipped fully insured FedEx home delivery. Local pickup in the St. Louis area is fine. I allow a 48hr approval window on all guitars, buyer must pay shipping in both directions and item is subject to restocking fee. I encourage prospective buyers to please ask detailed questions if needed, I will be happy to respond and send additional photos if necessary.
