This auction is for an extremely rare ophicleide by "Sautermeister & Müller à Lyon, brevete 125",made in the 1830s. The instrument is in C "UT" with 11 keys. I have owned the instrument for over twenty years. It is in good condition except for one broken spring and a missing right hand support. There is no mouthpiece. It was made around 1830 by Antoine Sautermeister of Lyon, a company renowned for its high quality workmanship and innovation. The name and company insignia is engraved and stamped on the bell ending with "Brevete 125".(photo) The instrument is in C at low pitch. The fingering system is different to "standard" ophicleides. Strictly speaking, its rarity and historical interest means it should be on display in a museum or collection. During the last 30 years I have never come across another instrument like this one, and it may well be the only surviving example.
Since Sautermeister produced instruments for the French army this ophicleide may have been made for the use on horseback, the playing position being similar to the ones in the engravings. For more info on Sautermeister & Müller go to:

Of course, you're welcome to arrange your own method of collection.Payment via bank transfer or cash on collection.
