Travel back in time with this vintage marimba. The brass stand is badged Ludwig. The bars are stamped Ludwig & Ludwig. I'm reasonably guessing it's from the 1920s. The bars are stamped Model 8879. Made in Chicago, back when Chicago was still Music City USA, home to many great instrument manufacturers. It is a great old four-octave, 49-key marimba. It has been played so there is ordinary play wear all over, especially on the stand. It all breaks down so it's portable. All together, it weighs about 81 pounds. It took me a few days, but I finally figured out how to set it up properly. (As it will be completely disassembled for shipping, I will write out instructions on how to properly set it up. It's actually pretty easy once one know how to do it.) It's big, about 59" long and 35" high. The original cream & gold painted finish on the stand is quite worn. I know some might want to repaint it, but I dig the patina of the original finish. Some of the pipes have minor dings. There is ordinary play wear all over. About 20 of the 1/2" rubber hose grommets are modern replacements. It comes with about five old mallets in worn condition. The stand has four in-built locking wheels to make it easy to move it about. It is truly an awesome instrument. By awesome, I mean it is awesome looking and awesome sounding! If anybody has an old Ludwig catalog, I'd love to know more about this model! It's a classic old American marimba that sounds absolutely wonderful. If you do make an offer during business hours, please know that I typically respond to offers within the hour. Questions? It will be well packed with plenty of new 1/2" bubble wrap and shipped in a new 46"x19"x7" stout cardboard instrument box. Please check out my Ebay store, “The 1970 Time Travel Trailer,” for more cool vintage stuff, including a bunch of vintage guitars (and a few ukuleles, banjos, fiddles, mandolins and amps, as well as fiddles, brass, woodwind, and various oddball musical instruments and old instrument brochures & catalogs). And please check out our new YouTube TV show, “Musical Treasure Hunting,” to see more of our adventures searching for old musical instruments.
