Buy with confidence.  Back in January 2003 at the Winter NAMM show Martin announced a new limited edition – co-designed by Jimmy Buffett, having an all mahogany body and back of neck.  This would be an Auditorium – being a 000 body whose neck meets the body at 12th fret.  It was built with scalloped hybrid bracing, and cosmetic features included tortoise color celluloid body binding and end-graft.  It has alternating crème and black “rope style” purfling around top, blue Paua shell soundhole rosette ring with narrow black/white/black purfling.  It has a rectangular ebony bridge, tortoise shell color teardrop pickguard, black/white purfling around the sides & back.  We greatly appreciate the comfortable neck width of 1 13/16th” and we presume that Mr. Buffet does as well.   This has a low profile neck, ebony fretboard, a 25.4" “long” scale.  The black ebony ‘board is inlaid with 4 small dotmarker inlays and, as well, sports a ship’s wheel at the 5th fret and Mr. Buffett's facsimile signature is inlaid at the 20th (or last) fret.  We love this part – on the polished black ebony headplate there is an inlaid shiny golden porthole through which one can view a breezy palm tree on an island, in a turquoise blue sea.   Said porthole has 8 black holes around its perimeter which must have symbolic meaning of some kind.  The nut and saddle are carved from bone, the string spacing at the bridge, with its compensated saddle, is 2 5/16".  It features gold butterbean open-gear; it is housed in a special light brown Geib style case, which shows just a few white scuffs on its surface. While there is no headstock logo, the “C F Martin & Co., Nazareth, PA” stamp appears on back of headstock.   The interior label is sequentially numbered with total (total of 168 were built – this one is Individual No. 81) and said label was signed by Mr. Buffett and C.F. Martin IV.
