For sale is my very rare Fender Japan Katana electric guitar in the unique Petrol green metallic finish. Also included is the original fitted Fender Hard Case and black pickup rings.
According to my research, these guitars were made for a short period during 1984/85. They were expensive to buy, not many were sold, and they were discontinued after only 18 months or so of production. Not a guitar you see every day... The main point of note is that the guitar has had a partial renovation/restoration. At some point the body has been routed for a different type of bridge assembly (Kahler or similar I suspect) and some wood was therefore missing around where the regular Fender System One bridge was previously installed. My tech has tidied up the cutout and re-installed the original System One bridge that was luckily still with the guitar. This involved building up some of the inner cavity again and re-installing the original bridge posts, tremolo claw etc. The bridge intonation screws and fine tuning knobs are replacements as the originals were mostly missing. The guitar plays great now, and you have a bit of 'up' in the tremolo now thanks to the rear scallop underneath the back of the bridge...! It's a very good job considering what was there previously. The satin black has been 'followed through' underneath the pickups as this part was previously painted in to hide some dings etc made by the previous owner. Finally, chromed metal pickup rings were added along with a chromed metal jack plate to replace the broken and disintegrated original plastic one... the original pickup rings are included though...!
The guitar is in generally fairly good vintage used condition, but as stated it has been partially restored from previous modifications. Other than this, there are dings and scratches on several places, including some paint losses - the worst of these are at the pointy ends, unsurprisingly. They've mostly been touched in with a dark pen. There's a bit of wear and tarnishing to the hardware, and the usual swirling and pick markings etc to the finish. There's no significant damage that I can find. I believe that the frets have been stoned at some point in their life, and they are showing wear again but there's plenty of life left in them. The neck is straight and she plays and sounds great! Please check out all the photos, as they form part of the description - I've tried to show the condition as well as I can in them.
