Up for sale, a 1965 Imperial Tonemaster lap steel in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced by the Valco company in Chicago (home of National, Supro, Airline and others), this steel was branded for the Imperial Accordion company. Eye-catching and unique, this steel features a white pearloid wrap, black lucite playing surface with gold geometric markers, and a rare DeArmond "Stringtone" tailpiece. The pickup has a warm and wooly sound, with enough twang and zing to keep Nashville pickers and Hawaiian music enthusiasts happy too. The optional DeArmond Stringtone apparatus is a very rare an ingenious design that allows you to change the tuning of multiple strings with the quick flip of a lever. The Stringtone is very stable and reliable, allowing for three different tunings, depending on where you set the lever (denoted by an A, E, C# key guide as you turn the lever). The white pearloid wrap on the steel is in fantastic shape, with a plexiglass playing surface that has a three-dimensional quality, and geometric inlays typical of National steels. On the headstock, the original double line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines are intact and turn smoothly with their original white buttons. The electronics are stock and untouched, with Stackpole pots, original solder joints and a very cool paper in oil tone cap! Cosmetically, this steel is notably clean, with no discernible wear on the white pearloid wrap. The steel retains all of the original black plastic parts and white cupcake knobs. The original brown tolex hardshell case with red plush interior is included.
