Description
Selmer Paris Series 10G ClarinetThis particular 10G, Serial Number Z1230, was built in the spring of 1976.  It has been kept oiled and well maintained by the owner, a former woodwind technician.  The pads and corks are sound.  It is ready to play. Some background information on the Selmer Series 10G:As Principal clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the late Anthony Gigliotti was one of the country's most famous and influential clarinetists. His collaboration with Selmer Paris led to the development of the Selmer Series 10G (The "G" in the model name stands for Gigliotti.) In creating the 10G, Selmer aimed to improve upon the design of Buffet's R13. Gigliotti used to play R13s that he had modified to his specifications by Hans Moennig; Gigliotti believed that these design changes produced a clarinet with better intonation and more evenness throughout the registers. The design of the 10G was based on the modifications that Hans Moennig made to Gigliotti's R13s. The 10G retains the wonderful qualities of the R13 but also met Gigliottis's goals, allowing players to be "more versatile -flexible in dynamics, able to meet the demands for a broad range of tone, precise in tuning, and able to play stronger fortissimos without losing musical quality".In the December 1999 issue of The Clarinet, Gigliotti wrote: "The first time I went to the Buffet Crampon factory in France was in 1953 and I remember trying 55 Bb clarinets. After selecting the two best ones I then spent countless hours with Hans Moennig tuning and voicing them until I could finally try them in the orchestra. My reason for becoming involved with the Selmer Company was to make it possible for a student or professional to buy an instrument that didn't need all that work and it has resulted in the series 10G which was based on my Moennigized Buffet which I played for 27 years."Well known throughout the world as a professional grade instrument, Benny Goodman chose the Selmer 10G with a Woodwind G9 mouthpiece and Vandoren 1-1/2 reeds.
